Days 1-2 (November 6-7, 2025): The Trip to Grenada + Settling In At Last!
On our way to the airport Thursday afternoon, we looked up 'yellow fever entrance requirements' for Grenada. And because we were transferring through Trinidad, which is a yellow fever zone, it looked like Grenada would not let us enter without our yellow fever certificates. So we turned around, went home, and tore the house apart, but couldn’t find them. Off we headed again, empty-handed, and quite concerned. As we boarded our Porter flight to Toronto, we were quite stressed about what the implications of that would be: would we be denied entry to Grenada upon arrival?
Once seated on the Porter flight, I checked my email only to see that Caribbean Airlines had written to say our flight from Toronto to Trinidad was canceled! Long story made a short as possible, we spent the entire flight to Toronto trying to find new tickets. And before we landed, we did buy new tickets.
We went to the Caribbean Airlines counter in Toronto Airport to ask for a refund on our cancelled flight, and they told us that they were putting on a “relief flight” at 1AM and they were going to hold our 7:30AM connection from Trinidad to Grenada. (They only fly to Grenada each morning and each evening, so it was critical that we make that connection.) In the end, we left Toronto at 1:30 AM, landed in Trinidad at 7:35 AM, ran like crazy, and were the last ones on the packed flight to Grenada. Fortunately, we were able to get most of the money back on the new flights we had bought and didn't end up using, just suffering a penalty of $200.
We arrived at the beautiful Royalton Grenada Resort here in Granada at 9:15 AM. Our room wasn’t ready until 11AM, but they let us enjoy all the all-inclusive benefits of the resort right away. We enjoyed an amazing breakfast, got acclimated after getting into our room, did a great walk around the resort and beach, had lunch, took a mid-afternoon nap (due to being up all night), swam in the crystal clear water, had a nice sunset dinner at the resort’s Italian restaurant, and then watched a fire show. It was a great first day in Grenada!
Packed Porter Embraer 195 flight to Toronto, which had to be deiced.
We're smiling, but we had 'yellow fever certificate' stress. And soon after, we had 'cancelled Caribbean Airlines flight news' stress!
The 2AM meal on Caribbean Airlines, from Toronto to Trinidad. It was the exact same meal we had from Toronto to Trinidad last November - noodles and dumplings. Quite good actually.
A sprint through the Trinidad airport and arrival at our flight to Grenada. The last to board! So fortunate they held the flight by 30 minutes, as we'd have had to wait 12 hours for the next one.
Port-of-Spain is a huge city, the largest in the Caribbean.
The view of the rugged north coast of Trinidad.
The Caribbean's Windward Islands. Grenada is the most southerly of them and is just north of Trinidad & Tobago.
In Grenada’s Customs area hangs a portrait of 34-year old Prime Minister Mitchell.
Traditional Grenadian carnival dress in Arrivals.
Entrance to 'home' for the next four nights! We pulled up at 9:15AM.
The beautiful beach at the resort:
The boulders remind us of the Seychelles' coastline.
Note the rain shower falling over St. George's in the distance.
At dusk, hundreds of white Ibis gather on this tree, which is on an island in a lake on the Resort property.
