Day 6 (November 11, 2025): A Last Look Around the Resort + The Journey Home

With a 11:30AM flight to Barbados, we decided to get up at 6:30AM again this morning, so that we could do one last beach walk and swim, before breakfast and heading over to the airport. It was a wonderful 2KM walk, as the resort and beach were incredibly quiet at that time. Just towards the end of our swim, the skies opened up in a mighty way. We didn’t mind, however, as we were wet anyway. The upside of the rain was a rainbow - a perfect way to conclude our vacation.

Arriving back in our room, there was an email from Caribbean Airlines, saying that our flight to Barbados was three hours late. That would mean missing our Air Canada connection from Barbados to Toronto.  I spent the next hour communicating with Caribbean Airlines and Air Canada, with no success.  There aren’t many flights each week between Grenada and Barbados but, as if by a miracle, Inter-Caribbean Airways (Caribbean Airlines’ competition) had a flight that was to depart an hour after our now-delayed flight. We headed to the airport and, thanks to the kind Caribbean Airlines station manager, we were able to get moved over to the competition’s flight!  We took off from Grenada at noon, landed in Barbados before 1PM,checked in for our Air Canada flight, and hung out in an airport lounge until departure time.

Due to the snow in Toronto, the incoming Air Canada flight was late, resulting in an 80-minute delayed departure.  We arrived in Toronto at 9:30PM, and headed to our hotel for a short rest, before heading back to Pearson at 5AM for our flight back to Halifax, in order to get Pam to school on time.

Thank you for following along, during our trip to Grenada.  Definitely a Windward Island worth checking out!

Frolicking on the beach one last time!

Post rainstorm rainbow:

Inter-Caribbean Airways -- the competition airline for Caribbean Airlines -- saved the day!  Due to the three hour delay of our Caribbean Airlines flight to Barbados, we were moved over to the competition so that we would not miss our Air Canada connection from Barbados to Toronto.  This is an ATR-72 of Inter-Caribbean Airways.  The flight to Barbados took just 50 minutes.

Last views of Grenada

Maurice Bishop International Airport in Grenada.  Notice the jetways sticking out from the terminal building?  They just opened yesterday!  Brand new!

The view of the Royalton Grenada Resort, where we stayed.

St. George's, the capital.

Our last view of Grenada's beautiful coastline.

Barbados

The view of Bridgetown, Barbados, upon descent into the airport there.

Arriving in Barbados.

80 minutes late, but better late than not at all!  The wide-body Air Canada Boeing 787 Dreamliner was filled to capacity.  But somehow, we lucked out and had no one in our row!
